Getting ready for Chicago

If you like the work of the late Trappist monk Thomas Merton, this is the place for you.

I’m Bob Grip, President of the International Thomas Merton Society. I plan to use this blog to keep you up to date on plans for our upcoming General Meeting at Loyola University in Chicago in June, 2011.

Members of the ITMS Board and the Program Committee for the Chicago conference just wrapped up a meeting at Bellarmine University in Louisville.

We have planned an event that should appeal to everyone from the casual reader of Merton to those who are “Merton experts”.

I look forward to sharing more details in the days to come. Welcome!

Bob, this is as great idea. I’ll forward it to some of my friends as well.

  2. Hi, I am another WordPress blogger who is currently reading “The Seven Story Mountain.” As a student of Sufism for 40 years, I have had Merton’s books on my shelves for a long time, but never got around to this one. It is very interesting to read his earlier work, and even more interesting to do an initial search and see what some of the more orthodox Catholics say about him. A pity, that. Anyway, I don’t have much time today, but will return and take a good look at your site.
